For a nation of just over four million people, New Zealand is
one of the top five dairy exporters in the world and accounts for a
third of all dairy products traded on the international market.
New Zealand also has strong trade in beef, lamb and wool. We
have been exporting our produce for over 125 years and are well
established in international markets.
Almost a quarter of New Zealand's gross domestic
product comprises agricultural products.
Part of our success is owed to the country's temperate climate
and fertile soil that create ideal conditions for agricultural
production.
We have also built on these natural advantages and long history
as an agricultural producer to become a leader in the agricultural
technology industry.
These advances have helped us deliver higher yields and greater
consistency in farming outcomes around the globe.
New Zealand companies have achieved international leadership in
areas such as electric fencing, milk meters, livestock weighing
equipment and animal genetics.
They are also creating highly effective and sophisticated tools
for farmers, such as sustainable resource software that enables
planning around water quality, effluent disposal, and resource
management compliance.
New Zealand has continued to stay ahead of the field in all
areas of agriculture and is widely regarded as leading the
international farming community in animal welfare, traceability,
food safety, and agricultural sustainability.
